electricity in progress

Feb 16, 05:23 PM

Relatives and I are working on getting line power, mains, out to my shack/shed. Just a few more feet, along with the circuit panel, breakers, and wall sockets.

My radio’s power supply will be its own breaker. Then lights will be on their own breaker.

update: Now have line/mains power to 4 wall sockets. Each pair are on one breaker.

Now I just have to get the rest of the wiring, insulation, and mount my air conditioner so it will be cool in there during summer.

still trying to keep the wasps out

Jan 29, 02:16 PM

I haven’t been on the air since Field Day, 2016 due to wasps in my shed. I have closed up some small holes, and I hope to get the larger opnes along the roof peak closed up before the spring.

ARRL Field Day, 2016

Jun 24, 06:31 PM

Tested my radio and generator for field day this year. Both work.

Temperature in my shack was 95F at 2 PM, 1400, local. And got back down to 91F by 5 PM, 1700. 44-46 prcent humidity.

I got 4 QSOs completed.

My generator pull cord is jammed. So when I went to start back up after letting it cool off a bit, the generator doesn’t let go of the pull cord when I pul on it. Almost pulled my arm out of the socket. See if we can take it back to Lowes.

My first wallpaper item ! I saw my listing in the January, 2016 QST, but I had no idea I had won anything as I was at the bottom of the list with the fewest points.

Civilian Conservation Corps special event station August, 2015

Sep 19, 11:25 AM

The Calhoun County Amateur Radio Association had their annual CCC special event station to commemorate the people and the hard work they did. It is held at the stone tower, with museum, the second Tuesday in August.

I was the radio operator from approximately 9:25 AM until approximately 10:14 AM.

Here is their web page on this special event.

Our set up in the shade. We had tried 40m band earlier, but too much static. We switched to 20m band and got better reception. Still had a bit of fading.
